Singapore’s PM Wong Calls for Urgent AI Focus in APEC Economies
Singapore Prime Minister Wong emphasized the need for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economies to lead in artificial intelligence adoption. "We must reskill workers, redesign jobs, and build trust in AI systems," he told leaders of the 21-member group during the 'Preparing For A Future-ready Asia-Pacific' session.
The city-state is prioritizing AI applications in finance, logistics, healthcare, and advanced manufacturing. "While Singapore cannot develop foundation models alone, we can create high-impact implementations," Wong stated, signaling openness to regional collaboration on best practices.
The next economic growth wave will be AI-driven, according to the Prime Minister. "This technology will fundamentally reshape productivity and daily life," he added, positioning APEC members to capture value for both capital and labor.
